Diva Jennifer Hudson and her professional wrestler fiancé David Otunga believe it's perfectly cool for a man to wear an engagement ring.

Hudson, who got her ring five years ago, threw conventional wisdom to the wind recently when she presented Otunga with a platinum engagement ring glistening with 5 carats of diamonds. The Dreamgirls star told Angie Martinez of Hot 97 FM radio that she bought the ring because her beau wanted the world to know he, too, was off the market.

When Otunga was spied wearing what seemed to be a diamond wedding band during a November 15 event honoring Hudson with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the rumor mill churned out reports that the couple may have been secretly married.

The Grammy-winning songstress dispelled marriage rumors by explaining, "David is a little different. He wanted to have an engagement ring, too. “[He would say,] ‘You have a ring, but how are they going to know I’m taken?’”

"So I had a ring made and then I gave it to him as his birthday gift on his birthday. And the way that I gave it to him was like, 'Now will you marry me!' So I kind of proposed to him too," Hudson said on CBS’s The Talk.

In 2008, Otunga — a Harvard-educated-lawyer-turned-pro-wrestler — had proposed to Hudson on her 27th birthday.

Designer Neil Lane told People Magazine that the handmade "architectural and geometric" platinum-and-diamond men's ring is "masculine, yet has a lot of sparkle." Lane also is credited with having designed Hudson’s engagement ring, which features a 5-carat round center diamond and a micro-pavé split-shank band.

Hudson, 32, and Otunga, 33, are the parents of David Daniel Otunga, Jr., who was born in 2009.
